Oonagh McClure
Senior Asbestos and Medical Negligence Solicitor

Oonagh is the managing partner at Thompsons NI. She is a senior asbestos, serious injury and medical negligence solicitor.

 

A solicitor with many years’ experience, she specialises in dealing with compensation claims for asbestos-related diseases which are often very complicated and require a high degree of skill and knowledge to resolve them.

 

 Oonagh was invited to attend before the Stormont Committee to give evidence regarding the impact of living with a diagnosis of pleural plaques prior to the introduction of The Damages (Asbestos related Conditions) (NI) Act 2011 which secured the right to pursue compensation for people diagnosed with pleural plaques. She understands the concerns of her clients who are often elderly and sometimes very ill.

Oonagh also deals with medical negligence cases including birth defect cases and serious spinal and head injury cases.

Oonagh uses her experience to ensure her clients are awarded the maximum amount of compensation they deserve in the shortest possible time.

Oonagh is a Fellow of the The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. She is the Northern Ireland Board member of The Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers and a member of the Belfast Solicitors Association, SIA (The Spinal Injuries Association) and AVMA (Action Against Medical Accidents).

 

Caitriona Hargan
Senior Industrial Disease and Accident at Work Solicitor

Caitriona is an experienced industrial disease and accident at work solicitor based in Thompsons NI Belfast office.

She has experience of dealing with different types of industrial disease compensation claims including noise induced hearing loss and tinnitus as well as asbestos related diseases such as pleural plaques, asbestosis and mesothelioma. She has worked with the Derry Justice for Victims of Asbestos Group and local trade union officials to raise awareness of health and safety rights at work.

 

Over many years of practice Caitriona has also gained the specialist knowledge and experience necessary for the successful negotiation and litigation of accident at work cases.

Caitriona places a strong emphasis on client care and realises the importance of delivering a client focused service.

She helps injured people throughout Northern Ireland to make industrial disease and accident at work claims and is known for recovering the maximum amount of compensation to which her clients are entitled within the shortest possible time.

Caitriona is a member of the Belfast Solicitors Association.

Derek Kane
Senior Workplace Accident and Industrial Disease Solicitor

 Derek is a senior workplace accident and industrial disease solicitor based in Thompsons NI Belfast office.

 

He has a vast amount of experience in dealing with all different types of personal injury claims, but mainly specialises in dealing with compensation claims relating to injuries at work including industrial deafness cases and asbestos related diseases as well as workplace accidents.

 

With over 15 years’ experience, Derek has a wide knowledge of the various, relevant workplace regulations. He is used to chasing insurers of insolvent companies in order to recover compensation for his clients. He prides himself on his ability to resolve difficult cases without the need to issue proceedings.

George Kilpatrick
Employment Law Solicitor

George is an employment law solicitor based in Thompsons NI Belfast office.

With many years’ experience in employment law, George specialises in disability discrimination and is regularly involved in cases concerning substantial settlement figures for large groups of employees. George contributed to the Committee on the Administration of Justice’s handbook on civil liberties in Northern Ireland, writing a chapter concerning disability discrimination.

He was also involved with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, Northern Ireland Code of Practice.

In addition George also represents trade unions and offers training to representatives to ensure they are well equipped to advise on employment rights and discrimination law.

He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Group, Northern Ireland.

Paul Upson
Employment Law Solicitor

Paul is an employment law solicitor based in Thompsons NI Belfast office, after joining the firm in 2002.

Over the years he has dealt with all areas of employment law and regularly represents clients at Industrial Tribunal and Fair Employment Tribunal hearings. He has been involved in many significant employment law cases and has affected change in employment rights, ensuring that new mothers, on their return to work, are afforded their public holiday entitlement that accrued while on maternity leave.

 

Paul also regularly provides training to trade union representatives on a wide variety of different employment law issues.

He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Group, Northern Ireland.

Clare Shevlin
Personal Injury Solicitor

 Clare is a personal injury solicitor based in Thompsons NI office.

 

 Her experience spans personal injury claims including road traffic accidents and public liability, but she specialises in work place accidents. Clare works closely with trade unions and has trained both members and representatives in employment practices and standards.

 

She prides herself on empathising with clients who may have been through difficult situations and always seeks to make them comfortable in pursuing their claims. Clare always strives to provide them with the best possible support and to maximise their compensation.

Clare is also a member of the Belfast Solicitors Association.

Darren McAuley
General Practice Solicitor

 Darren is a general practice solicitor based in Thompsons NI office.

 

Having trained in London, he was admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales in 2004, and upon his return to Northern Ireland, retrained in 2008. He undertakes a wide variety of general practice work for clients in Northern Ireland, with particular specialism in criminal work as well as family and children cases, wills and conveyancing.

 

Darren delivers lectures to the Belfast Solicitors Association and the Solicitors Group, and has also presented at the Four Jurisdictions Conference. He also advises trade unions throughout Northern Ireland.

Darren is a member of the Belfast Solicitors Association.

Laura Henderson
Personal Injury Solicitor

Laura is a personal injury solicitor based in Thompsons NI office.

Laura joined Thompsons NI in 2016 and has experience in a wide variety of personal injury claims including road traffic accidents, criminal injuries and occupier’s liability, but specialises in work place accidents.

Laura is committed to excellence in client care and strives to recover the maximum compensation for her clients within the shortest possible time.

Joanne Kerr
Workplace Accident and Clinical Negligence Solicitor

Joanne is an experienced personal injury solicitor based in the Thompsons NI Belfast office.

 She has vast experience in dealing with a variety of personal injury claims to include road traffic accidents, industrial disease and public liability claims. She is a specialist in accident at work claims, often involving significant injuries, and her expertise in medical negligence has led her to represent clients in claims involving birth defects and serious head injuries and more recently women suffering from TVT implants.

 

Joanne is focused on supporting and guiding her clients through the claims process and securing for them the maximum amount of compensation.
