Thompsons NI secures compensation for cyclist hit by car

Thompsons NI has secured significant damages for a client with a history of brain injury.

The 48-year-old man from County Antrim was knocked off his bike by a car, sustaining a fractured skull that resulted in a brain bleed. Following the accident, the keen cyclist had to give up his much-loved hobby, as well as other interests, including football.

As a child he had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage which required surgery, subsequently having cranioplasty the following year. He later had further surgery for an aneurysm.

As a result, the defendant did not accept that his brain injury had been exacerbated in any way.

Managing partner, Oonagh McClure, said: “After a delay in proceedings due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused considerable stress for our client, we were able to list the case in October and secure a quick but significant settlement.

“Distinguishing the effects of the later injury from the first was difficult, but I am pleased with the outcome and pleased we were able to help our client secure damages after suffering such life-changing injuries.”

The client’s father said: “On behalf of our family, I would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all at Thompsons NI for the help and support given over the last five years. We appreciate your thoroughness in dealing with all the complications that resulted from his accident, and are grateful for the sensitivity, patience, and understanding shown to us throughout the whole process. We were all very pleased with the outcome of the case and its satisfactory conclusion.

“Thompsons NI was originally recommended to us by Headway UK, which we can now validate as being efficient and excellent. It is difficult to find a legal service today to represent someone who has a brain injury with the insight and understanding needed when dealing with the many different complications involved. ”
